In a recent press briefing, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov evaded questions regarding the future of the Wagner Private Military Company (PMC), emphasizing that, legally, no such entity as “Wagner PMC” exists. Peskov’s response comes amidst growing speculation about the fate of the Wagner Group and its involvement in various military operations.
“While there is the Wagner Group which, as the president has previously acknowledged, played a significant role in the success of special military operations, it’s important to remember that, legally speaking, there is no official Wagner PMC,” Peskov stated during the press briefing.
When pressed about the future plans for the Wagner Group, Peskov maintained that he lacked the necessary information to provide any insight at this time. He refrained from discussing the potential implications of Wagner’s activities in Belarus and directed inquiries to Belarusian authorities.
Regarding the speculation about the successor to Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of Wagner PMC, Peskov dismissed the query, asserting that it falls outside the scope of the Kremlin’s purview. “De jure, there is no such entity,” he reiterated.
Prigozhin was listed among 10 people on board an executive jet that crashed Wednesday in the Tver region, leaving no survivors, according to Russian authorities.
There has been no official confirmation that Prigozhin’s body was found or identified, and it remains unknown what brought the plane down.
