Washington D.C.(GBN): By law, the inauguration day is 20 January. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in at noon that day in Washington DC. Opening remarks are historically scheduled for around 11:30 EST.

The inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States will mark the commencement of the four-year term of Joe Biden as president and Kamala Harris as vice president.

A public ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, January 20, 2021, on the West Front of the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

The event will be the 59th presidential inauguration. Biden will take the presidential oath of office as president on that day, and Harris will take the vice-presidential oath of office as vice president. The inauguration will take place during the COVID-19 pandemic, and festivities will be limited to prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.

According to Biden Inaugural website, “President-elect Biden will also deliver an inaugural address that lays out his vision to beat the virus, build back better, and bring the country together. The ceremony’s footprint will be extremely limited, and the parade that follows will be reimagined. The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) is urging the public to refrain from any travel and participate in the inaugural activities from home. Additional details will be released in the coming days and weeks in partnership with the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC)”.

The inauguration is the event where the US president-elect and vice-president elect are sworn in.

“I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Once Biden takes the oath, he has officially assumed office and the power of the presidency is his. He’ll move into the White House later in the day – his home for the next four years.

Senators and members of Congress are the keepers of the keys. Each has an allotted number of tickets that they can distribute.

But this year, the Biden team has “strongly encouraged” people to refrain from traveling to Washington to attend, amid fears of virus spread.

In normal circumstances, DC would see hundreds of thousands – make that an estimated two million the year President Obama was sworn in swarming the National Mall and selling out hotels.

“The pandemic is continuing to have a significant public health impact across the nation. Americans everywhere must do their part to slow the spread of the virus: wear masks, stay home, and limit gatherings. We are asking Americans to participate in inaugural events from home to protect themselves, their families, friends, and communities,” said PIC Chief Medical Advisor Dr. David Kessler.

“The PIC will continue to announce further details about events and how Americans can participate as it becomes available in the coming weeks, according to Biden Inaugural website.

President-elect Joe Biden said today “Whether you voted for me or not, I’ll wake up every single morning and work to make your life better, President-elect Joe Biden said.

“Here’s my promise to you: I’ll be a president for all Americans. Whether you voted for me or not, I’ll wake up every single morning and work to make your life better, President-elect Joe Biden twitted this morning.
