After the death of Queen Elizabeth II of Britain on Thursday, her son Prince Charles has been appointed as her successor.
Charles is 73 years old now. After Charles became king, his eldest son, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, would now be called the Prince of Wales.
Prince Charles’ full name is Charles Philip Arthur George, the eldest son of Prince Philip and Elizabeth II. Charles was born on 14 November 1948, at Buckingham Palace. He is the first heir to the throne after the Queen in the British royal family.
Charles married Lady Diana Spencer on July 29, 1981. The two have two sons, Prince William and Harry. In 1996, both Charles and Diana separated.
Princess of Wales Diana died in a car accident in Paris in 1997. Charles later married Camilla Parker on April 9, 2005.
Charles received his early education at Hill House School in West London. After private schooling in Hampshire and Scotland, Charles attended Trinity College, Cambridge in 1967. He took a bachelor’s degree there in 1971. Where he studied anthropology, archeology, and history, Canadian-born Professor John Coles was his tutor.
On 23 June 1970, he earned a bachelor’s degree in arts and became the third member of the royal family to receive a university degree. Thereafter, on 2 August 1975, he was awarded a master’s degree in Arts from Cambridge in accordance with the conventions of the University. Charles then enrolled at Old College (a part of the University of Wales in Aberystwyth), where he studied Wales language and Wales history. He was the first Prince of Wales who, despite being born outside Wales, tried to learn the language of the principality.
