First vice-president of Afghanistan Amrullah Saleh has claimed that he is the caretaker president of Afghanistan as President Ashraf Ghani left the country.
In a post on Tweeter Tuesday, Amrullah Saleh said that under the constitution, if the Afghan president resigns, dies, and leaves the country, the first vice president will become acting president.
In his tweet, Amrullah Saleh said he was inside Afghanistan and had contacted other leaders to seek their support.
Saleh, quoting the constitution said: “in case of absence, escape or death of the President, the First Vice President will be the acting President. I am inside the country and I am legally and legitimately in charge of this position/chair. “
He is under consultation with all the leaders of the country to strengthen the position, he added.
