Japanese Style Chicken Hamburger with Brussels Sprouts and Japanese Rice

This dish, Brussels Sprout’s hamburger is a Japanese-style side dish that’s full of big flavors. This is delightful to serve alongside rice.

I grow in Japan, and that is why it used to be my least favorite dish, however, nowadays, it is one of my favorites. Those who are like me will enjoy this recipe and of course those who love hamburger whatsoever will love it as well.

Let’s chekout with the Ingredients for Japanese Style :

For Patties Ingredients:

3 green onion/scallions

1 ginger (chopped)

¾ lb. ground chicken thigh

Shiitake mushroom(optional)

For patties seasoning

1 tbsp. sake

1 tbsp. potato starch or cornstarch or breadcrumb

1 tsp sesame oil

½ tsp soy sauce

Salt – your taste

Freshly black pepper

For Sauce:

3 Tbsp. water

2 Tbsp. sake

2 Tbsp. soy sauce

2 Tbsp. mirin

1 tbsp. ketchup(optional)

Butter- 1 Tbsp.

Instructions:

To make sauce

  1. In a frying pan,  add 1 tbsp unsalted butter, water, sake, soy sauce ,mirin, and ketchup(optional). Mix well together and bring sauce on medium heat to simmer.  When the sauce thickens, turn off the heat.

To make Brussels sprouts

In a frying pan, heat 1 tbsp oil on medium-high. Once it’s hot, add the garlic, then add the Brussels sprouts. Add salt and pepper and mix well.

To make patties

1. Chop green onions, cut shiitake mushrooms(optional), onion, and garlic. In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients for the patties and mix it all together. Once that is done, add the patty seasoning and mix again. With your hands, make each patty into a circular shape.

2.Pre – heat your stove to med and when ready, add your hamburger piece. Fry each patty side for 2 minutes. Then turn down the heat to medium-low. Cover the frying pan and cook for 6 minutes.

3. Serve with steamed rice and Brussels sprouts.  Pour the sauce on top of the chicken burger.
