Israeli news reports say an Israeli shooting raid in the West Bank city of Nablus has drawn gunfire from Palestinian militants and ended with the death of at least 10 Palestinians, including a 72-year-old and a 16-year-old.
One hundred others were reported injured. It’s the latest fatal attack by Israel, which has killed at least 61 Palestinians, including 13 children, since the start of the year. Sixteen-year-old Muntaser al-Shawwa died Monday, two weeks after he was shot in the head by Israeli forces.
The raid comes amid escalating violence in Israel and the West Bank.
The Lion’s Den, a militant faction in the West Bank founded last year as terrorist incursions escalated in intensity, launched a retaliatory shooting attack that targeted two Israeli soldiers in a crowded location. Immediately after the attack, Israeli counter-terror units raided the city to locate and eliminate those responsible for the fatal attacks. More than 10 Palestinians were killed during the operation.
Israel says the casualties are almost entirely militants.
