    India Train Accident: More than 120 dead

    In a devastating incident today, a train accident in the eastern state of Odisha has resulted in the loss of 120 lives and left several others injured. The accident happened on Friday near Bahanaga railway station in the Balasore district of India. Three trains collided with each other near Bahnaga station.

    According to officials and doctors, 120 people have died in this accident and more than 800 passengers have been injured.

    Now the relief work is going on at the spot.

    According to the Indian Railway, Coromandel Express and Howrah Superfast Express collided with each other. Officials said that the accident happened at 7 am on Friday. Several coaches of the Howrah-bound Bengaluru-Howrah train derailed in Balasore district’s Bahnaga Bazar, officials said. Thereafter, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express derailment collided with the rail and the coach of the Coromandel Express overturned, officials said. Then a goods train Coromandel Express derailed and collided with the coaches, officials said.

    Speaking to reporters at the crash site, Odisha Fire Services official Sudhanshu Sarangile said: “We have pulled out more than 120 bodies now.” The process of checking overturned trains “after completing the task”, he told that the figures can increase.

    After the accident, the Ministry of Railways announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the relatives of the deceased, Rs 2 lakh to the seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 to the general injured.

    As news of the tragedy spread, the nation has been mourning the loss of lives in this unfortunate incident. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to express his grief and extend his sympathies to the affected families. He emphasized that authorities are working on rescue operations and providing all necessary assistance.

    Odisha Chief Secretary said that 132 injured in Coromandel Express train accident were shifted to Soro CHC, Gopalpur CHC and Khantapada PHC. On the other hand, the MD of Odisha State Disaster Management Authority said that 47 injured have been brought to the Medical College in Balasore.

    The exact cause of the train derailment is still under investigation. Railways officials have formed a committee to probe the incident and determine the factors that led to this tragic accident. The committee will examine various aspects, including track conditions, maintenance, and any possible human error that might have contributed to the derailment.

    Rescue efforts were immediately launched after the accident, with local authorities, railway personnel, and emergency services working tirelessly to extract survivors and provide medical assistance. The injured individuals were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving treatment for their injuries. The state government has announced that all necessary measures will be taken to provide the best medical care to those affected.
