Ukraine has lashed out at India for buying crude oil from Russia. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Wednesday that Ukraine expects “more practical support” from India.
Addressing a press conference, Foreign Minister Kuleba said that Ukraine has been a reliable partner of India, but by purchasing crude oil from Russia, India is actually buying Ukrainian’s blood.
This harsh remark of Ukraine came at a time when Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar defended the country for buying oil and gas from Russia in Bangkok, according to a report from Hindu.
Ukraine’s blood in every barrel of oil
The Ukrainian foreign minister said, “When India buys crude oil from Russia at a discount, it has to understand that this discount will not be compensated for from anywhere but with the blood of Ukraine. In every barrel of Russian crude that India gets, the blood of Ukraine has been found. We have been friendly to India. I supported the evacuation of Indian students trapped in the country. We expected more practical support for Ukraine from India.”
Foreign Minister Kuleba, speaking to The Hindu, referred to India and Ukraine as two democracies that have essential similarities and “the two democracies have to stand by each other”.
