In a scintillating display of fast bowling, India’s Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj demolished Sri Lanka’s batting lineup, securing a resounding 302-run victory and a spot in the World Cup semifinals. This victory marked India’s seventh consecutive win in the tournament and solidified their position as the team to beat.

From the very first ball of the match, India set the tone with Jasprit Bumrah striking to put Sri Lanka on the back foot. Mohammed Siraj continued the onslaught, taking the next three wickets, leaving Sri Lanka reeling at just four for three runs. But it was Mohammed Shami who stole the show, claiming a remarkable five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5-18. Sri Lanka could only muster 55 runs in their chase, marking their lowest total in a 50-over World Cup.

India’s batting was equally impressive, with Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill leading the charge. They combined for a sensational 189-run partnership for the second wicket, propelling India to a formidable total of 357 for eight. Kohli’s 88 and Gill’s 92 showcased their class, despite a few early scares as both batsmen were given reprieves.

Sri Lanka’s hopes of progressing to the knockout stages were all but extinguished with this loss, marking their fifth defeat in seven matches. India’s unbeaten streak and dominant performance have made them a formidable force in the tournament, and they are now the first team to secure a place in the semifinals.

The electrifying encounter at the Wankhede Stadium highlighted India’s scorching pace attack and their potential to go all the way in this year’s World Cup. With their bowlers firing on all cylinders and their batting lineup in top form, they are undoubtedly a team to watch in the upcoming matches.
