    India: 11 killed, 15 injured as trailer rams into bus in Rajasthan

    According to Indian news agencies, a tragic incident occurred in the Lakhanpur police station area of Bharatpur district in Rajasthan, India, early Wednesday morning. Reports state that a parked bus was violently struck by a trailer, resulting in the loss of at least 11 lives and causing injuries to 15 individuals.

    The accident took place on the Jaipur-Agra highway at around 4.30 am near Hantra in Bharatpur district, about 160 km east of Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan.

    The bus, carrying pilgrims from Bhavnagar in Gujarat to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, had stopped on the roadside due to a punctured tyre. A trailer coming from behind hit the bus with such force that it overturned and fell into a ditch.

    “11 people died on the spot in the accident. The deceased were identified as five men and six women,” a senior police official said.

    The injured have been admitted to RBM Hospital in Bharatpur, where some of them are said to be in critical condition .

    The District Superintendent of Police, Mridul Kachhawa, arrived at the spot and inquired about the accident. He said that a case has been registered against the driver of the trailer, who fled the scene after the mishap.

    The police are investigating the cause of the accident and trying to trace the absconding driver.

    According to PTI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the families of the victims. In addition, he has authorized a sum of Rs 2 lakh to be offered as ex-gratia to the immediate family members of the deceased, and Rs 50,000 to those who have been injured.

    He also directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families.
