England beat India by an innings and 76 runs to level the series 1-1.

England produced a brilliant spell of fast bowling to dismantle the Indian batting line-up, taking eight wickets in the first session on Day 4 to bowl out the visitors for 278 in the second innings and win the 3rd Test by an innings and 76 runs.

Ollie Robinson expertly utilized the second new ball on the fourth morning to claim 5-65 and hasten India to 278 all out.

The emphatic win at Headingley in Leeds helped the hosts level the five-match series at 1-1.

All of it proved to be a mirage as Ollie Robinson dismantled the Indian cricketers with the second new ball, claiming his second five-fer of the series to seal England’s dominant series-leveling win by an innings and 76 runs.

India resumed at 215 for 2, still 139 away from making England bat again but with Pujara and Kohli nearing individual and partnership milestones. In the space of 19.3 overs and 77 minutes, they were all-out, giving Kohli his second innings defeat as captain and also his second defeat after winning the toss. The 78 all-out was a bigger problem but losing 8 for 63 today only served to underscore recurring problems in the team.

It all began with Ollie Robinson dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara on 91 as he, along with Kohli, failed to add a single run to their 99-run partnership. Soon after, Virat Kohli got to his first fifty of the series but fell to Ollie Robinson. From thereafter, India witnessed a massive collapse. Robinson completed his five-wicket haul, while James Anderson and Moeen Ali picked up a wicket each. A three-wicket haul by Overton cleaned up India’s tail.

Ollie Robinson is named Man of the Match for his 5-65 in the second innings (he also took 2-16 in the first).

“It’s a dream, to be honest, to get a man of the match award in my first win for England, Robinson said. “I enjoyed bowling here before, and it’s nice to use the conditions here, so I’m happy to get a five-for here. To bowl with Jimmy and learn from him is an honor. It has only improved my game. I keep learning and trying to be as good as possible. It’s nice to get Kohli, after he got me for two fours in the over – it’s a simple plan to Virat, fourth and fifth stump, get it to angle away, and hope he nicks it and he did.”
