The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has reportedly broadened its ground operations in the central region of the Gaza Strip. The 99th Division, a key component of the IDF, has been conducting operations in areas located to the south of Gaza City.

The IDF has stated that the 99th Division has ventured into new territories within central Gaza as reported by the Times of Israel. The objective of this maneuver is to establish operational control between Gaza City and the central camps, which are essentially the refugee camps situated in the heart of Gaza.

During the course of the operation, the 179th Reserve Armored Brigade and the 646th Reserve Paratroopers Brigade, both part of the 99th Division, reportedly engaged with members of Hamas’s Nuseirat battalion. The IDF claims that these encounters resulted in the elimination of several members of the battalion.

In addition to this, the IDF asserts that the operation led to the destruction of significant portions of the terror group’s infrastructure. This includes tunnels and weapon depots that were being used by Hamas.

The operation also witnessed an airstrike against a Hamas cell. The cell, which was reportedly launching RPGs at IDF troops, was stationed in a municipal building. The IDF has not released further details about the airstrike or the subsequent damage to the municipal building.

In southern Lebanon, the IDF carried out airstrikes against Hezbollah sites following attacks on northern Israel. The sites targeted by fighter jets include rocket launch sites, military buildings, and other infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah. Another Hezbollah site was targeted by aircraft, tanks, and artillery.

Additionally, the IDF shelled a number of areas along the border with artillery, presumably to prevent Hezbollah from carrying out attacks.

The IDF reports that several projectiles were fired at Dovev, Avivim, and the Mount Dov area on the border. The missile against Dovev wounded two people, and the attack on Avivim caused damage. Several more rockets were fired from Lebanon at Arab al-Aramshe, but failed to cross the border, according to the IDF. It adds that an aircraft struck the cell behind the launches.

Regarding the drone infiltration alarm that sounded earlier in northern Israel, the IDF says it identified a number of “aerial targets” that entered Israeli airspace from Lebanon. It says an interceptor missile was fired during the incident, and “the event is over,” without elaborating further.

The IDF’s expansion of its ground operations in Gaza and the new wave of airstrikes in southern Lebanon mark significant developments in the ongoing conflict in the region. However, the full impact of these operations on the overall situation in Gaza and southern Lebanon remains to be seen.
