South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor’s luxury brand Genesis will be 100% electric after 2025, the company announced Thursday.
“All new vehicles will be purely electric starting from 2025 with fuel cell EVs and battery EVs”, the company said. “Genesis plans to become a 100 percent zero-emission vehicle brand by 2030 and aims to become carbon neutral by 2035“.
To become carbon neutral, Genesis said it will establish itself as a 100 percent zero-emission vehicle brand by 2030. Genesis said it aims to build an EV lineup consisting of eight models and expects global sales to reach 400,000 units per year.
Hyundai Chief Executive and President Chang Jae-hoon said Thursday that Genesis will start rolling out only electric vehicles and hydrogen cars to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.
With this move, Genesis will not release new internal combustion models after 2025.
Genesis has been on an intensive, bold, and successful journey, successfully establishing itself as a truly global luxury brand,” said Hyundai Chairman Euisun Chung. “Genesis is once again at the starting point of another audacious journey – the journey towards a sustainable future.”
Along with the dual electrification strategy, Genesis announced their goal to pursue a carbon neutral brand by 2035. This is the first time for a member of the Hyundai Motor Group to announce the transition and will solidify the brand as a leader in the luxury vehicle brand.
Genesis said it plans to make the bold transition to innovate its entire value chain, beginning with raw materials, vehicles, and parts and extending to all work-sites and production plants.
Genesis said it plans to reach that goal by selling only electric vehicles across its sales networks, including dealer shops.
