Law enforcement agencies have swarmed the area surrounding CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia, after a man reportedly approached the facility’s main gate with a firearm and began firing shots, according to authorities. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Georgetown Pike and Dolley Madison Boulevard.
A police spokesman confirmed that the Fairfax County Police Department’s SWAT team is assisting CIA Police in managing the situation. According to reports from DC News Live social media posts, a man was seen walking near the CIA headquarters gate while discharging a firearm. Multiple law enforcement and fire units from Arlington and Fairfax County responded quickly to the scene.
Fairfax County Police announced on X, formerly Twitter, that “Dolley Madison Blvd is shut down in both directions between Georgetown Pk and Savile Ln in McLean for a barricade incident at @CIA HQ.” The department also confirmed that their Special Operations Division is actively involved.
Fox 5 News reported that a bomb squad, equipped with a bomb disposal robot, and a police command center have been deployed near the entrance to the CIA. The scene remains heavily secured as authorities work to bring the situation under control.
As a precaution, Dolley Madison Boulevard remains closed in both directions between Georgetown Pike and Savile Lane, with traffic being diverted to alternate routes.
