A giant panda has given birth to twin female cubs, the Beauval Zoo in central France announced on Monday. The first was born at 1:03, the second at 1:10. The first weighs 149 g and the second weighs 129 g.
“They are very lively, pink and plump,” the Zoo said.
Huan Huan and Yuan Zi were on loan to France from China in 2012.
“They quickly became the stars of the ZooParc, making visitors “melt” with their agility, their appetite, their desire to play and lounging, the Zoo said.
“This enthusiasm has obviously increased with the birth of their little Yuan Meng in August 2017, welcomed worldwide. On August 2, 2021, Huan Huan gave birth to twin girls! An extraordinary recognition of the daily work of the ZooParc de Beauval teams.”
According to the Zoo, Mother Huan Huan takes care of it well. The zoo said she took them in her mouth to lick them and clean them. Little cries are heard! The joy exploded within the teams, moved to see these tiny pandas appear, 8 hours after the start of work for Huan Huan.
This double birth is the happy outcome of gestation that began last March, following the contact between Yuan Zi and Huan Huan followed by artificial insemination carried out by animal reproduction specialists from Leibniz-IZW, Thomas Hildebrandt and Frank Goeritz and by Jella Wauters, Belgian veterinarian from Ghent University and Leibniz-IZW, the Zoo said.
