The 2023 G20 New Delhi summit was the eighteenth meeting of G20. It was held in Bharat Mandapam International Exhibition-Convention Centre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on 9–10 September 2023. It was the first G20 summit held in India as well as in South Asia.

The G-20 summit concluded on Sunday with a joint declaration that urged all countries to respect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of other nations and to refrain from using force or threats of force. The declaration, which was adopted despite the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine, also called for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine based on the Bali G-20 declaration and UN resolutions.

The White House said that the joint statement was a result of President Joe Biden’s leadership in rallying the international community to end the Russia-Ukraine war and bring peace based on the principles of the UN Charter. John Finer, the principal deputy national security adviser, said that Biden was involving countries around the world in this effort and that the statement was a big step in this direction. He said that major economies were united in calling on Russia to uphold international law and to abide by its obligations in the UN Charter.

However, Ukraine’s foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, expressed his dissatisfaction with the G-20 declaration, saying that there was nothing to be proud of in it. He criticized the declaration for not mentioning Russia by name and for not reflecting Ukraine’s position that it was a victim of unprovoked Russian aggression. He thanked the partners who made efforts to include strong changes in the text, but said that Ukraine would have helped the participants better understand the situation if it had been invited to the summit.

Biden left for Vietnam from Delhi on Sunday morning after attending the G-20 summit. He is expected to meet with Vietnamese leaders and discuss regional security and economic cooperation.
