In a concerning development, Russian forces have launched a renewed wave of missiles and drone attacks on Ukraine’s eastern region of Kharkiv and the crucial Black Sea port of Odesa. Further east, Russian forces attempted to regain territory in the Bakhmut area of Donetsk. Despite their efforts, they were repelled by Ukrainian defenses. The General Staff’s daily report also highlighted the successful interception of a Russian attack helicopter above Bakhmut by Ukrainian air defenses.
In the southern theater of the conflict, Russian forces initiated “unsuccessful attempts” to counterattack in the Robotyne sector of Zaporizhzhya. This comes after earlier reports from the Russian military suggesting “partial success” for Ukrainian troops around Robotyne. Social media sources indicated that Ukrainian troops might have made inroads into Robotyne, a strategically significant settlement that factors into Kyiv’s southern advance toward Melitopol.

Tragedy struck southern Ukraine on August 13, when Russian shelling claimed the lives of several civilians, including a family consisting of parents, an infant daughter, and a 12-year-old boy. The incident occurred in the Shyroka Balka municipality in the Kherson region. This regrettable incident adds to the toll of civilian casualties, with a total of seven individuals losing their lives and 20 sustaining injuries due to shelling in the Kherson region. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko strongly condemned the violence, emphasizing the need to halt the targeting of civilians.
