A tragic train collision occurred in Indonesia’s West Java province near Bandung early Friday morning, resulting in four fatalities and 42 injuries. The Turangga Train (KA Plb 65A) and the Bandung Raya Commuterline Train (KA 350) collided in the Cicalengka-Haurpuguh lane section.

The victims, as reported by local media Antara, were four train crew members: a driver, an assistant driver, a steward, and a security officer. Despite the devastating incident, a total of 478 passengers on the two trains survived the crash. The collision took place on the railway near Cicalengka Station of Bandung District at 06.03 am local time.

Acmad Hanapi, director of the Cicalengka General Hospital, where the injured were rushed, informed reporters that 21 people had minor injuries and six others had moderate wounds.

The Indonesian Transport Safety Committee (KNKT) will conduct a joint investigation with Indonesia’s state-owned railway company, PT KAI, on the fatal incident, according to Soerjanto Tjahjono, head of the committee. Tjahjono stated that the investigation, which involves collecting information and data, would take two to three months to conclude.
