In a separate development, it was revealed that Trump received a letter stating he is a target of a grand jury investigation related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Regarding the potential indictment, Pence expressed his hope that it does not come to that, stating that the decision should be left to the American public to determine Trump’s responsibility. Pence also acknowledged that Trump’s actions were reckless and disagreed with the former president’s belief that he could overturn the election outcome, which had resulted in some rioters chanting “hang Mike Pence” during the Capitol riots.
Amidst the investigations, Trump was previously indicted in June for unlawfully retaining national security documents and lying to officials who sought to recover them, to which he pleaded not guilty. Recently, he faced additional charges of falsifying business records to conceal a payment to a porn star.
