The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recovered six more documents containing classification markings during a search of US President Joe Biden’s residence in Wilmington, Delaware on Friday.
The FBI also seized some of Biden’s handwritten notes, according to Bob Bauer, the president’s personal lawyer. Bauer said that the search operation lasted for about 13 hours.
The six documents are in addition to documents previously found at Biden’s Wilmington residence and his private office. President Biden and his wife were not at home when the home was searched.
According to Bauer’s statement, the Justice Department has seized material it believes is within the scope of its investigation, including documents marked classified and other materials. Some of this material dates back to Biden’s tenure as a senator and vice president.
According to the report, the FBI has also seized personally handwritten notes from Biden’s tenure as vice president for further review.
The president and first lady Jill Biden were not at the home when it was searched. They are spending the weekend at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Joe Biden’s lawyers found six other classified documents in his home library about a week ago. These documents are related to his tenure as Vice Presiden, and nearly three months after lawyers found a small number of classified records at his former offices at the Penn Biden Center in Washington.
The discovery of the document became a political issue in the US. Because after leaving the presidency, Donald Trump’s house was also searched and classified documents were confiscated.
Bauer said the Justice Department has not yet reviewed the seized records, so it is unclear what the confidentiality value of these documents is and whether the documents being reviewed by the FBI are confidential or not.
These documents have become a headache for Biden and have complicated the investigation related to Trump. The discovery of the classified documents became more difficult for Biden to present his claim in the 2024 presidential election.
When Biden responded, “We have found many documents in the wrong place. We immediately submitted them to the Archives and Department of Justice. Biden said that he is fully cooperating and wants to resolve this issue quickly. It is not yet known whether the FBI will search elsewhere.
Biden has been accused of keeping classified documents with him before leaving the vice-presidential position.
