The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has lifted a ground stop that delayed thousands of flights across the country Wednesday morning after an outage affected one of its computer systems.

“Normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually across the U.S. following an overnight outage to the Notice to Air Missions system that provides safety info to flight crews,” the FAA said in an 8:50 a.m. update. “The ground stop has been lifted.”

More than 4,300 flights within or into the U.S. have been delayed already by 9:10 a.m., according to flight tracking website FlightAware.com. More than 2,000 flights have also been canceled. Flights that were in the air were allowed to continue and land, but new departures from and to the U.S. were halted for hours, officials said.

The cause of the FAA outage is being investigated, White House officials said.

“The President has been briefed by the Secretary of Transportation this morning on the FAA system outage,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, said in a tweet. “There is no evidence of a cyberattack at this point, but the President directed DOT to conduct a full investigation into the causes.”
