Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, has set his sights on a major rebranding initiative, announcing his intention to change the social media platform’s iconic logo.

In a tweet on Sunday, the Musk stated, “If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll make go live worldwide tomorrow.”

“And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds, ” he added.

As part of this rebranding effort, Musk encouraged users to suggest a new X logo, promising to make it live worldwide as early as the following day if the right design is submitted.

Having assumed control of Twitter in October of last year, Musk has already rechristened the company as X Corp, indicating a significant shift in its corporate identity. His ultimate vision is to transform Twitter into a “super app,” taking inspiration from China’s highly successful WeChat platform.

This isn’t the first time Twitter has toyed with its logo. In April, the iconic bird emblem was temporarily replaced with the Shiba Inu dog, the face of the popular cryptocurrency Dogecoin. The move resulted in a surge in Dogecoin’s market value, illustrating the significant impact Twitter’s branding decisions can have.

However, not all of Musk’s recent Twitter-related announcements have been met with enthusiasm. The recent decision to limit the number of tweets various accounts can read per day garnered widespread criticism from users and marketing professionals alike. This move sparked debates about the platform’s commitment to free expression and openness.

Adding to Twitter’s recent woes, the company is facing a lawsuit filed by former employees, demanding at least $500 million in severance pay. Since Musk’s takeover, Twitter has implemented significant cost-cutting measures, including laying off more than half of its workforce.

As Elon Musk spearheads this ambitious branding overhaul, the future of Twitter remains uncertain. Users and industry experts are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the new X logo and the subsequent changes it may herald for the popular social media platform.
