Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, known for his unwavering support of Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, awarded a $1 million check to a petition signer during a campaign event in Pennsylvania on Saturday. This announcement follows Musk’s pledge to reward one person daily with $1 million for signing an online petition that supports the U.S. Constitution.

The petition, launched by Musk, reads: “The First and Second Amendments guarantee freedom of speech and the right to bear arms. By signing below, I am pledging my support for the First and Second Amendments.” Musk, who has thrown his full weight behind Trump’s re-election bid, is using this petition as a strategic tool to rally support for Trump’s campaign.

While the right to free speech is widely supported across party lines in the U.S., the right to bear arms remains a divisive issue. Republicans, especially Trump supporters, are staunch advocates of the Second Amendment. Musk’s online petition thus taps into this divide, attempting to mobilize conservative voters in swing states like Pennsylvania.

Reuters reported that during the Pennsylvania event, Musk handed the $1 million check to John Dreher, a petition signer, stating, “Well, John didn’t know much about this. So, you’re welcome.” The event took place just two weeks ahead of the 2024 presidential election, underscoring the high stakes for both parties in swing states like Pennsylvania.

At the same event, Musk also warned that if Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, wins the election, it could be the last U.S. election ever held. While Musk did not elaborate on how or why Harris’s victory could lead to such an outcome, his comment reflects the heightened tensions and stakes in this election cycle.

In addition to his vocal support, Musk has also used X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, to bolster Trump’s campaign. Since acquiring the platform, Musk has positioned it in ways that favor Trump, from content amplification to campaign visibility. Moreover, Musk has reportedly donated millions to Trump’s re-election efforts.

Musk’s involvement in Trump’s campaign has become increasingly visible, particularly in battleground states like Pennsylvania. The state, known for its electoral significance, has been a focal point of Musk’s efforts, as the Electoral College system determines the presidency in the U.S. With only a few key states likely to decide the outcome, Pennsylvania remains a critical battleground where both parties are fiercely competing.

While Trump is unlikely to win based on the popular vote alone, the Electoral College system makes it possible for him to secure a victory through targeted wins in swing states. Musk’s involvement is seen as a strategic move to help tip the scales in Trump’s favor, especially in states like Pennsylvania.

Additionally, Trump has previously announced that if he wins, he would include Musk in his cabinet, potentially giving the billionaire direct influence over key government decisions. Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX, have benefited from billions in government subsidies and contracts, even under Democratic leadership. Should Trump win, Musk stands to gain even more government support, potentially as a return on his substantial financial backing for the campaign.

Musk’s $1 million daily giveaway and ongoing involvement in Trump’s campaign have raised eyebrows, sparking conversations about the influence of billionaires in U.S. elections and the potential consequences for future governance.
