A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck western Nepal near the epicenter of Chainpur in Bajhang on Tuesday afternoon at 3:06 p.m. local time. This follows another quake earlier in the day, measuring 5.3 in magnitude, with its epicenter also in Bajhang at 2:40 p.m. local time. The seismic activity has left seven people injured in the region.

In the aftermath of the earthquake, shockwaves were felt in far western districts, causing widespread panic and damage. Reports indicate that six people sustained injuries in Bajhang, while an additional person was injured in Achham.

In Bajhang, five individuals, including four students from Satyawadi Mavi Bhopur, and one resident of Kedarsyun Rural Municipality, were among the injured. Local authorities have swiftly transported the injured to Bajhang District Hospital for medical treatment.

One student was injured while attempting to escape a school building in Achham, and he is currently receiving medical care at the local Goda health post. District Police Office Achham DSP Santosh Pathak reported that the student is in stable condition. Several school buildings in Achham have sustained structural damage, and authorities are assessing the extent of the destruction.

District Police Office Bajhang’s DSP Bharat Shah estimated that numerous physical structures have been damaged throughout the district. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported at this time.

The earthquake has caused severe damage to concrete houses in the district headquarters, with reports of village homes and schools being destroyed. Life in the region has been significantly disrupted, prompting the District Administration in Bajhang to advise residents to seek shelter in safe areas. Local police are actively gathering information about the extent of the damage in various locations.

In April 2015, a devastating earthquake of 7.8 magnitude rocked Nepal, killing nearly 9,000 people and wounding nearly 22,000 others. It also damaged over 800,000 houses and school buildings.

The situation is still developing, and authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Residents are urged to remain cautious and take necessary precautions in the wake of these seismic events.
