The Russian capital Moscow was attacked by drones on Tuesday morning, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced. It is the second such attack on the Russian capital, after the alleged attack on the Kremlin earlier this month.

According to media reports, more drones were used this time. Several residential buildings were hit and a drone was filmed flying over an affluent area of the Russian capital, according to BBC.

The attack in Moscow, more than 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine, came as Kyiv was hit by another Russian drone strike that left at least one dead, The Moscow Times reported.

“This morning, at dawn, a drone attack caused minor damage to several buildings. All the city’s emergency services are on the scene,” Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said.

    No injuries were reported.

A Russian attack on Kyiv follows, in which more than 20 drones were destroyed, according to Ukrainian officials. One person was killed in the 17th attack on Kyiv in early May.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it reserves the right to take “the strictest possible measures” in response to the drone attack on its capital Moscow.

Speaking on Russian state television, Putin claimed the attack on Moscow was a “response” to an air strike against Ukraine’s military intelligence agency.

The Kremlin blames Ukraine for the attack, but Kyiv authorities deny any responsibility.

In a statement obtained by Reuters, the ministry said it “reserves the right to take the strongest measures in response to the terrorist attacks of the Kyiv regime.”

It also criticized the West, saying assurances by Nato officials that Kyiv would not launch “strikes deep into Russian territory” have proven “to be completely hypocritical”.

The attack in Moscow came shortly after Russia launched a third straight attack on Kyiv, and Ukrainian officials said more than 20 drones were destroyed.
