Dozens are hurt and approximately 200 firefighters are on the scene of a large fire at a Bronx apartment building Sunday morning, the FDNY said.
More than 60 people were believed to be hurt, including 32 with life-threatening injuries, according to the New York Times.
According to officials, the fire spread from the second or third floor up to the 19th and they believe that the fire was one of the city’s worst fires in recent memory.
“The numbers are horrific,” Mayor Eric Adams said at a news conference on Sunday afternoon, adding, “This is going to be one of the worst fires that we have witnessed during modern times.”
The fire started just before 11 a.m. in a duplex apartment on the second and third floors of the building, on East 181st Street, according to the Fire Department.
