Justice Department has publicly revealed the historic federal indictment against former President Donald Trump, disclosing the charges he faces in relation to his handling of sensitive government records after leaving the White House.
The indictment, consisting of 44 pages, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
It accuses Trump of attempting to obstruct FBI and grand jury investigations, as well as concealing classified documents.
The indictment also names Walt Nauta, a former White House valet and Trump’s aide, as a co-conspirator.
The charges listed in the indictment against Trump include:
- 31 counts of willful retention of classified documents
- 1 count of conspiracy to obstruct justice
- 1 count of withholding a document or record
- 1 count of corruptly concealing a document or record
- 1 count of concealing a document in a federal investigation
- 1 count of scheme to conceal
- 1 count of making false statements and representations.
“This indictment was voted by a grand jury of citizens in the Southern District of Florida,” said special counsel Jack Smith in a news conference Friday afternoon. “And I invite everyone to read it in full, to understand the scope and the gravity of the crimes charged.”
