The United States on Sunday said that their discussion with the Taliban since they took power in Afghanistan was ‘candid and professional’.

The US has reiterated that the Taliban will be judged based on their actions, not words.

According to the US State Department, the U.S. interagency delegation traveled to Doha, Qatar to meet with senior Taliban representatives on October 9 and 10.

Ned Price, State Department spokesperson described the discussion with Taliban, held in Qatar, as “candid and professional.”

The U.S. delegation focused on security and terrorism concerns and safe passage for U.S. citizens, other foreign nationals and our Afghan partners, as well as on human rights, including the meaningful participation of women and girls in all aspects of Afghan society, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said in a statement Sunday.

The two sides also discussed the United States’ provision of robust humanitarian assistance, directly to the Afghan people, Price said.

“The discussions were candid and professional with the U.S. delegation, “Price said adding the Taliban will be judged on its actions, not only its words.

In the meantime, the foreign minister of Afghanistan in a statement on Monday, October 11 expressed satisfaction from the talks with the US and added that their talks were detailed.

This was the first meeting between US officials and Taliban leaders since the US withdrew its forces from Afghanistan in August.
