    Democrats control the Senate for the first time since 2015

    (GNB Desk): Senators: Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff of Georgia were both sworn into office on Wednesday. This a landmark achievement for Democrats that gives their first Senate majority since 2011.

    Both the senators represent Georgia, were sworn into office by Vice President Kamala Harris, who became the first Black, South Asian, and female vice president in US history.

    Warnock defeated Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and Ossoff defeated Republican David Perdue, both made a history.

    Now the Senate equally divided between 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans, Vice President Harris will have a final vote per constitution that would give Democrats control of the government for the first time since 2011.

    Harris’s successor in the senate, Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla of California, becoming the state’s first Latino senator. Padilla also sworn into office on Wednesday,

    Sen. Chuck Schumer became majority leader late Wednesday afternoon, following the swearing in of Democratic Sens. Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock of Georgia and Alex Padilla of California by Vice President Kamala Harris.
