Washington D.C. (GNB): Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock has defeated Republican incumbent Kelly Loeffler in the first Senate runoff election, according to projections by Associated Press, ABC News, and NBC News.
The other Senate race between Democrat Jon Ossoff and Republican David Perdue has not yet been called. The two Senate runoff elections will determine which party gains control of the US Senate.
Democrats have won one of the two runoffs on the ballot. At about 2 a.m., the Associated Press first declared Democrat Raphael Warnock the winner over Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler.
Mr. Warnock led by over 54,000 votes, while another decomcrat Ossoff leads by over 17,000 votes.

Warnock becoming the first Black senator in his state’s history and putting the Senate majority within the party’s reach.
In the other contest, David Perdue, the Republican whose Senate term ended on Sunday, and his Democratic challenger, Jon Ossoff, were neck-and-neck, with thousands of votes still to be counted. Under Georgia law, a trailing candidate may request a recount when the margin of an election is less than or equal to 0.5 percentage points.
The Senate currently stands at 50 Republicans and 48 Democrats. If Democrats win both runoffs, the party will have control of the chamber because Vice President-elect Kamala Harris would break any ties. But if Republicans win one of the two races, they will maintain control.
