Las Vegas, NV – In a highly anticipated showdown at the T-Mobile Arena, David Benavidez emerged victorious over David Morrell on February 1, 2025, unifying the light heavyweight titles. According to various sources, the fight saw Benavidez retain his interim WBC light heavyweight title and claim Morrell’s WBA (Regular) light heavyweight belt.

Benavidez, known as “The Mexican Monster,” dominated the bout, earning a unanimous decision with judges Patricia Morse Jarman and Steve Weisfeld scoring the fight 115-111, while Tim Cheatham scored it 118-108. Benavidez’s relentless attack, landing 48% of his power punches and 76 body shots, proved too much for Morrell.

Despite a knockdown in the 11th round, Benavidez remained unfazed and continued to control the fight. “This is ‘El Monstro’s’ world,” Benavidez declared post-fight. “I knew he’d be tough and that’s why I prepared so hard for this. I’m happy we were able to give the fans a great show tonight,” he added, as reported by various sources.

Morrell, who suffered the first loss of his career, acknowledged the challenge. “It was a good fight. This is boxing, some days you win and some days you lose. Tonight was my turn. I’m young and I’ll keep pushing for another opportunity,” Morrell said, according to the same sources.

The victory sets up Benavidez for a potential showdown with the winner of the upcoming Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol fight, slated for February 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Benavidez expressed his readiness for the next challenge, aiming to unify all four titles in the light heavyweight division.

The co-main event saw Stephen Fulton Jr. outpoint champion Brandon Figueroa to win the WBC featherweight belt by unanimous decision.

The night was a testament to Benavidez’s skill and determination, solidifying his place as one of the top fighters in the light heavyweight division. Fans eagerly await his next move as he continues his quest for undisputed gold.
