A vehicle drove into a group of people in central Munich on Thursday, injuring several individuals, including police officers. The incident occurred near the city’s main railway station, at the intersection of Dachauer Strasse and Seidlstrasse.

According to reports, the car drove into a trade union demonstration, causing panic among bystanders. The police confirmed that the driver was detained at the scene and currently poses no further danger. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the number of injured or a possible motive. A major police operation is underway, with emergency services attending to the victims.

Security measures in Munich have been heightened ahead of the annual Munich Security Conference, which is set to begin on Friday. The conference is expected to host international political leaders and security officials, including U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Eyewitnesses Describe Chaos

Several people were hurt on Thursday after a car plowed into a group of pedestrians in Munich, the capital of Bavaria, according to Germany’s mass-circulation daily Bild, citing police officials.

A police statement confirmed that multiple people sustained injuries.

“The driver of the vehicle was secured on the spot; he currently poses no further danger,” police said.

Broadcaster BR24 reported that the victims were part of a token strike demonstration.

Eyewitnesses claimed that two men were in the vehicle, and one of them was shot by police and taken away. Authorities, however, have urged the public not to speculate as investigations continue.

Incident Sparks Concern Before Global Security Summit

The crash happened just one day before world leaders gather in Munich for the Munich Security Conference, a globally significant event focusing on international security issues.

Sandra Demmelhuber, a local journalist covering the event, shared a picture on X (formerly Twitter) showing a damaged car surrounded by police and emergency crews.

She described the distressing scene:

“There is a person lying on the street, and a young man was taken away by the police. People were sitting on the ground, crying and shaking. Details are still unclear.”

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and the area remains cordoned off as police and emergency responders work at the scene. More updates are expected as the situation develops.
