Manhattan grand jury has indicted former US president Donald Trump, according to the sources familiar with the legal case.

This has been the first time in the history of the United State of America that a current or former president has faced criminal charges.

According to multiple sources, the Manhattan grand jury has voted to indict Donald Trump on charges involving payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter.

Earlier last week Trump said that he may go to jail soon. He claimed this while writing a status on his social network Truth Social.

The case involves porn star Stormy Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Gregory Clifford, who said she had an affair with Trump a decade ago. However, Trump has been denying the affair.

An investigation into documents last year revealed that Trump and former top aide Hope Hicks were directly involved in paying porn star Stormy Daniels huge sums of hush money to keep her mouth shut during the 2016 presidential campaign.

After this, Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen admitted his crime in August last year and said that he gave money to Stormi on Trump’s order. But it is not clear whether Trump had a direct role in it or not.

According to the documents, Stormi was paid $130,000 in October 2016. Cohen spoke to Trump on the phone twice before giving Stormi the money. Stormy has previously claimed to have a close relationship with Trump in 2006.

On Jan. 31, Stormy issued a statement denying the alleged affair, saying “I am not denying this affair because I was paid ‘hush money’ as has been reported in overseas-owned tabloids. I am denying it because it never happened.”

Trump was the US president from 2017 to 2021 and has said that he will try to return to the White House after winning the 2024 US presidential election.

The probe comes at a critical time, as Trump seeks the Republican nomination for the presidency in 2024.
