The Taliban has announced a new government for Afghanistan on Tuesday.
Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund was named as the leader of the new government, chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Abdul Ghani Baradar will be the deputy leader and Sirajuddin Haqqani has been named as interior minister, Mujahid told reporters.
Sirajuddin Haqqani, son of the founder of the Haqqani network, designated as a terrorist organization by the United States will be the new interior minister.
“The Islamic Emirate decided to appoint and announce a caretaker cabinet to carry out the necessary government works,” Mujahid said in a press briefing.
Mujahid named 33 members of “the new Islamic government” and said the remaining posts will be announced after careful deliberation.
“It was agreed that we would announce a new government before a formal ceremony could be held,” Ahmadullah Wasiq said on Twitter.
