A powerful blast targeting a security forces’ vehicle on Warsak Road in Peshawar claimed the life of one Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and left nine others injured, including six FC personnel and three civilians, the Geo news agency reported.

The explosion, which occurred at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time, was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the roadside, according to Warsak Superintendent of Police Arshad Khan, reported the news agency. Initial reports suggest that five kilograms of explosives were used in the attack.

The injured victims were swiftly transported to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), where two of them were reported to be in critical condition, according to the hospital’s administration.

Both the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) and the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) teams are actively gathering forensic evidence from the attack site. Local law enforcement has cordoned off the area for further investigation.

According to the report, Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Syed Ashfaq Anwar disclosed that, as of now, no group has claimed responsibility for this devastating attack. He emphasized the implementation of strict monitoring measures on both internal and external routes within the city, reiterating the commitment to thwart any attempts by elements hostile to the nation’s interests.

CCPO Anwar also underscored the active collaboration among security agencies in the ongoing fight against terrorism, aiming to establish lasting peace and security.

This attack comes against the backdrop of escalating violence in Pakistan, with multiple militant groups carrying out campaigns of terror against the state and its security forces. Just last month, a suicide bombing at a mosque in Quetta claimed the lives of at least 13 people, with the Pakistani Taliban claiming responsibility. In July, a blast targeting a bus carrying workers to a dam project in Dasu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulted in the deaths of nine Chinese nationals and four Pakistanis, with China and Pakistan attributing the incident to terrorists.

Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the “cowardly attack on FC officials’ vehicle” in a statement posted on social media. He expressed his prayers for the swift and complete recovery of the injured and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of the martyred FC official.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
