(GNB- Lahan, Nepal): The Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha ((Revolutionary) has claimed responsibility for the blast that took place at the Land Revenue Office in Lahan Municipality of Siraha on Sunday afternoon.

Eight people were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) went off suddenly at the Revenue Office in Lahan of Siraha district. Among the injured, condition of two is said to be critical, local media reported.

According to the press release issued by the Revolutionary group, the pressure cooker bomb that exploded at around 12:47 pm was placed by the group as part of a campaign against corruption that is rampant in Tarai.

“We detonated a pressure cooker bomb at 12:47 PM as an action against corruption,” reads the statement.

“More stringent action will be taken if corruption continues, and the Government of Nepal and Provincial Government would be responsible for it”, according to the outfit.

“Nepal is one of the most corrupted nations in the world and due to the forceful colonisation of the Tarai by Nepal, corruption has reached its extreme in the region which the group thinks is a heinous crime,” the statement reads.

Leaflets of the Jay Krishna Goit-led outfit had been found at the blast site earlier.

Eight people were injured in the blast. The injured are being treated at Saptarishi hospital in Lahan, two of the eight people injured in the explosion are being airlifted to Kathmandu, police said to the media.

The Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha ((Revolutionary) led by Goit was said to be formed in 2004 as after a split from the then CPN (Maoist) accusing the latter of not guaranteeing autonomy to the Tarai-Madhesh.
