(GNB DESK)- The Black Lives Matter organization declared its “solidarity with Palestinian” Monday, in effect backing Hamas, the militant terror group that controls the Gaza Strip.
The announcement came via Twitter as pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in the U.S. and other Western countries to call for a cease-fire in the region.
“Black Lives Matter stands in solidarity with Palestinians,” the group stated via Twitter. “We are a movement committed to ending settler colonialism in all forms and will continue to advocate for Palestinian liberation.”
The organization added it will “always” side with Palestinians.
The controversial Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement (BDS) thanks BLM for the solidarity via Twitter.
BDS tweeted- “Thank you for your solidarity. From Ferguson to Palestine, our struggles against racism, white supremacy, and for a just world are united”!
BDS, which has for years called for an economic embargo of Israel.

Local chapters of the Black Lives Matter organization also pledged allegiance to Hamas, which has controlled Gaza since 2007.
In a statement, the Paterson chapter called Israel a “repressive apparatus.”
“Black Lives Matter Paterson condemns the ongoing violence against Palestinians in East Jerusalem by the state of Israel and stands in solidarity with those fighting occupation,” the statement read. “We as an organization believe in the freedom to worship and a life free from fear of expulsion and violence.”
“The scenes coming out of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, where Israeli soldiers are using excessive force against Palestinian worshippers, harkens to our struggle against a repressive state apparatus,” it continued. “BLM Paterson also condemns the current situation in the Sheikh Jarrah enclave, where Israeli settlers are forcibly evicting residents from their ancestral homes.”
According to the reports, ongoing battle between Israel and Hamas militants, at least 12 Israelis and 213 Palestinians have been killed over the past eight days, including 61 children and 36 women. More than 100 Israelis and 1,400 Palestinians had been wounded as of Tuesday evening.
