President Joe Biden addressed the nation from the White House on Friday about the ongoing effort to evacuate Americans and Afghan friends from Afghanistan in the face of the Taliban’s takeover.
” Any American who wants to come home, we will get you home,” Biden said during his remarks on Friday.
President Biden also said after a “pause,” evacuation flights have resumed out of Kabul. The pause was done to “make sure we could process the arriving evacuees at the transit points,” he added.
“This is one of the largest, most difficult airlifts in history,” President said from the White House.
“I cannot promise what the final outcome will be or that it will be without risk of loss,” Biden added. “But as commander in chief, I can promise you I will mobilize every resource necessary, and as an American, I offer my gratitude to the brave men and women of the US armed forces who are carrying out this mission. They’re incredible.”
Biden also said the United States is committed to evacuating all Afghans who assisted the war effort. The president said US forces have airlifted 13,000 people out of Afghanistan since August 14, and 18,000 since July, with thousands more evacuated on private charter flights “facilitated by the US government.”
