Bappi Lahiri, a popular singer, composer of Bollywood legend known for popularizing disco music in India died on Tuesday night due to multiple health issues at the CritiCare Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai. He was 69.
The veteran widely known as “Disco King” has given some incredible music in the era of 1980s-90s for movies like ‘Sharaabi’, ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Disco Dancer’, ‘Namak Halaal’ and many more. His last Bollywood song was Bhankas for the 2020 film “Baaghi 3”.
Besides his number of hits, he was also known for sporting gold chains, bracelets, rings, and a watch.
Bappi Lahiri, born Alokesh Lahiri, was born into music – his father Aparesh Lahiri and mother Bansuri Lahiri were both Bengali musicians. Bappi entered the world of music at a very young age and made his debut playing tabla at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, when he was three. Bappi had revealed in an interview that Lata Mangeshkar had asked his parents to send him to Pandit Samta Prasadji for training.
Over the years, he worked with legends in the music industry like Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar.
The entire film industry and his fans have been mourning the loss of the Veteran ‘Disco King’ Bappi Lahiri.
