Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah, widely known as Balen, has publicly urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to provide a foundation for Nepalese citizens to live with dignity. In a powerful social media post, Balen expressed concern over Nepal’s international image, highlighting that the United States labeled Nepal as ‘corrupt,’ India referred to it as ‘beggars,’ and China disregards its people.

Addressing Prime Minister Oli, Balen wrote, “Dear Prime Minister, the U.S. has called us corrupt, India has called us beggars, and China doesn’t count our people. Forget that I’m a mayor; please provide us with the basis to live as proud Nepalese.” He appealed to the Prime Minister to look beyond his mayoral position and focus on creating an environment where Nepalese citizens can live with pride and dignity.

His statement reflects growing concerns among Nepalese leaders about the country’s global perception. This post came shortly after Balen confronted former U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks labeling Nepal as ‘corrupt.’ Balen directly addressed Trump on social media, defending Nepal’s integrity and criticizing the portrayal of Nepalese people.

In his Facebook post directed at Trump, Balen wrote, “Dear Donald J. Trump, thank you for making us realize our country is better than yours. While you label us as ‘corrupt’, it’s our hardworking citizens who contribute significantly to global economies, including yours. Perhaps it’s time to reflect on your own nation’s challenges before pointing fingers.”

Balen further asserted that while Americans might be perceived as lazy, Nepalese people are hardworking and have even extended help to others. His candid remarks have resonated with many citizens, igniting nationalistic sentiments and sparking discussions on the need for better leadership and international respect.

Balen’s outspoken posts reflect a growing demand among Nepalese citizens and leaders for dignity and respect on the global stage, urging political leadership to safeguard the nation’s pride.
