At least 10 people were killed in a mass shooting by a gunman inside a Buffalo supermarket Saturday afternoon, multiple media outlets reports quoting the unnamed law enforcement sources.
Officers believe the gunman entered the supermarket on Saturday afternoon before opening fire with a high-powered rifle, the Associated Press reports.
The Buffalo Police Department tweeted that it was on the scene of a mass shooting at a Tops supermarket on Jefferson Avenue.
“BPD on scene of a mass shooting at the Tops in the 1200 block of Jefferson Avenue. Police say multiple people have been struck by gunfire. The shooter is in custody. Motorists and residents are urged to avoid the area,” the police department tweeted.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a tweet that she’s “closely monitoring” the shooting.
The Erie county sheriff’s office said on social media that it ordered all available personnel to assist Buffalo police.
