Thousands of health care workers across the country received the first doses of the new Pfizer coronavirus vaccine this past week.

The arrival of the initial shipments of the COVID-19 vaccine came as a huge relief to those who’ve been caring for COVID-19 patients since the beginning of the pandemic.

‘Today, I chose to get COVID vaccinated because I trust the scientific process and inventions’, A Registered Nurse Ashma said.

Ashma Chapagain, a Registered Nurse works for Banner Health, Arizona was among the health care workers to get the first round of Pfizer’s vaccine this week.

She’s cared for many COVID-19 patients and had been looking forward to the vaccine for months.

Ashma shares her experience as below:

I believe in the importance of protecting myself, my family, my patients and everyone around me, therefore, I personally endorse and encourage people to get the COVID-19 vaccination.

It’s been six hours since my first dose and so far I haven’t had any symptoms besides soreness in my injection site. From what I have heard or read, the side effects of vaccines are pretty similar to that of flu vaccine which are fever, malaise, muscle soreness or body aches.

I personally believe that these are very manageable side effects and worth it considering the actual COVID symptoms/complications. I fully understand that getting a vaccine doesn’t mean that I will be forever immune to the disease itself, however, given its 94-95% effectiveness, there will be a peace of mind which would ultimately help me provide patient care without as much fear.

Since the second surge of COVID infection, I have been working in COVID unit where i have seen things that I would never wish anyone would suffer from. It takes toll on your mind and body, when you’re dealing 12-13 hours a day with COVID patients and coming back home to my family when I would fear for my life thinking I might have brought the virus to my home, to my family.

Well, let’s cut it to the chase, I hope that you all choose to get the vaccine when given the opportunity because it will help us get back to our normal lives sooner rather than later and most importantly it will save lives. Until then, let’s keep up the fight, let’s keep wearing masks and washing our hands. We got this!
