A devastating storm that hit the coastal city of Bahía Blanca, Argentina, on Saturday night claimed the lives of 13 people and injured dozens more, when the roof of a sports club collapsed during a roller-skating display.

The storm, which had winds of up to 95 mph, caused the roof of the Club Atlético Huracán de Ingeniero White to give way and fall on the participants and spectators of the event, organized by the local skating federation.

Among the victims were three children, aged 5, 9 and 10, who were part of the skating team. The other fatalities were adults who were accompanying them or watching the show. Two people were in critical condition and several others suffered fractures and bruises.

The club’s president, Jorge Capotosti, said that the club had all the permits and security measures in place, and that the roof had been inspected recently. He also expressed his grief and solidarity with the victims and their families.

The authorities are investigating the causes of the collapse and the possible responsibilities of the club and the organizers. The mayor of Bahía Blanca, Héctor Gay, declared three days of mourning in the city and offered his assistance to the affected people.

Club Atlético Huracán de Ingeniero White is an Argentine sports club founded in 1913, with soccer as its main activity. The club plays in the regional leagues of the Argentine Football Association. It also has other disciplines, such as basketball, volleyball, handball and roller skating.
