Kabul, August 25, 2023 — The Afghan police have carried out successful operations leading to the seizure of a substantial quantity of illicit drugs, further bolstering the ongoing efforts to combat drug-related activities in the country. According to a report by the state-run Bakhtar news agency, the seized contraband includes a total of 185.5 kilograms of narcotics, comprising 25 kilograms of heroin and a staggering 160.5 kilograms of hashish.

The operations were conducted in the eastern Nangarhar and northern Balkh provinces, specifically targeting the border towns of Torkham and Hairatan. This joint effort by Afghan law enforcement agencies underscores the dedication to curbing the illicit drug trade that has plagued parts of the nation.

In an attempt to dismantle the underground drug business, security personnel arrested 11 individuals suspected of being involved in drug smuggling. These arrests were made across various regions, including the capital city of Kabul, and the provinces of Kandahar and Herat.

The Afghan caretaker government, amid its commitment to restoring stability in the war-torn country, has intensified its measures against narcotics trafficking and related criminal activities. This recent accomplishment adds to their ongoing campaign against poppy cultivation and the opium trade, both of which have contributed to instability and social challenges.

The seizure of 185.5 kilograms of drugs not only reflects the determination of Afghan authorities to combat the narcotics trade but also serves as a testament to the growing collaborative efforts of security forces across multiple regions. As Afghanistan continues to navigate its path toward peace and progress, addressing the drug trade remains a critical aspect of the nation’s recovery.
