Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) and its partners have smashed a drug trafficking ring comprising 142 members of various nationalities and seized 816kg of narcotic substances, Abu Dhabi Police Department said in a statement.

According to Abu Dhabi Police (ADP), the police department in cooperation with its partners overthrew drug promotion organized networks including 142 criminal elements of different nationalities and dispersed areas in different Emirates of the state and seized 816 kilograms of narcotic substances in several cross-border cases.

Dean Tahir Gharib Al-Dhahri, Directorate of Drug Control in the Criminal Security Sector, reported that drug control officials have monitored the phenomenon of sending random messages through social media containing photos, videos and voice messages for drug promotion and claiming their ability to deliver drugs anywhere in the country.

Al-Dhahri explained that the gang leaders used international phone numbers to spread propaganda randomly to promote narcotic substances.

After launching a search and investigation, the anti-narcotics officers nabbed the drug peddlers when they were trying to place the drugs in separate locations for delivery, he said.

Abu Dhabi Police dealt a painful blow to the drug traffickers and distributors, catching them red-handed and referred them to the judiciary for trial, he added.

He explained that there was coordination between the Drug Control Directorate and the Federal Drug Control Administration of the Ministry of Interior to prosecute those involved internationally in these cases in coordination with the authorities of the countries where major drug dealers are evaluated.
