Pain Au Chocolat- Recipe of the day!

Must read

I have a 9 year old kid who used to be very difficult in feeding. He would enjoy eating only if there was something new in his plate and easily got bored if the food repeated. So, I started baking and cooking new and different food more often. Pain Au Chocolat is a French pastry which I love baking and my kid loves eating and does not get bored of eating it frequently. I hope you all love baking this pastry.

Let me start with the ingredients:

  1. Plain flour – 450 gms
  2. Yeast – 1 teaspoon
  3. Water (Lukewarm) – 50 ml
  4. Milk – 250 ml
  5. Chocolate bars – 200 gms (Coarsely Chopped)
  6. Unsalted Butter – 50 gms (while making dough) 250 gms (while spreading on the rolled dough)
  7. Sugar – 60 gms
  8. Salt – 1 teaspoon
  9. Egg – 1 Large

Instructions:

  • Dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm water and leave for a few minutes.
  • In a bowl add flour, milk, sugar, melted butter, salt and the yeast mixture and mix it to form a dough with the help of mixture with dough hook attached, in medium speed.
  • Cover the bowl with plastic cover and allow it to rest for around 30 mins at room temperature.
  • Now, roll the dough into a rectangle roughly 12-inch by 18-inch.
  • Cover it loosely with the moist damp towel for around 40 minutes.
  • Brush the rectangle with the softened butter and then fold it into thirds like a letter.
  • Again, roll the long rectangle into the original sized rectangle or roughly 12 by 18-inch.
  • Again, fold a rectangle shaped dough into thirds and cover it loosely with the plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for around 45 minutes.
  • Repeat the rolling and folding as above for one more time and again cover it loosely with plastic wrap and let it rest for 45 minutes for 1 more time.
  • Now, roll the long rectangle into the 12 by18-inches rectangle one more time and cut it with the sharp knife into small rectangles as shown in the picture below.
  • Arrange about 14 gms of coarsely chopped chocolate on each small rectangle and fold it as shown in the picture above.
  • Similarly, fold all the small rectangles to form small cylindrical shapes and arrange them on the baking sheet on a tray as the picture below. Make sure to tuck the loose end under each pastry.
  • Cover them with the damp towel loosely and leave it to rest at room temperature for about an hour.
  • Now, Preheat the oven to 400 F. While the oven is being Preheated, whisk the egg and brush it across the surface of each pastry.
  • After the oven is preheated, bake the pastry for 14-17 minutes or until the pains au chocolat looks golden brown.
  • Serve and Enjoy!
