A British court has blocked WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange extradition to United States, saying it would be “oppressive” because of his mental health.

The 49-year-old WikiLeaks founder, Australian has been charged in the US under the Espionage Act for his role in publishing classified military and diplomatic cables.

In a ruling on Monday, British judge Vanessa Baraitser said “I have decided that extradition would be oppressive and I order his discharge”.

About Julian Assange:
Julian Assange came to international attention as the founder of the whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks.

Julian used his genius IQ to hack into the databases of many high profile organizations. In 2006, Assange began work on WikiLeaks, a website intended to collect and share confidential information on an international scale, and he earned the Time magazine “Person of the Year” title in 2010. Seeking to avoid extradition to Sweden over sexual assault allegations, Assange was granted political asylum by Ecuador and holed up at the country’s embassy in London in 2012. In 2016, his work again drew international attention when WikiLeaks published thousands of emails from U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee. After his asylum was rescinded in April 2019, Assange was indicted in the U.S. for violating the Espionage Act.
