A lighthearted moment turned into a memorable experience when a 4-year-old boy from Mount Pleasant dialed 911 to report his mother for eating his ice cream. The incident, which began as an amusing misunderstanding, ended with a sweet gesture from local police officers.
According to the Village of Mount Pleasant Police Department, the call occurred on March 4, 2025, when Officers Gardinier and Ostergaard were dispatched to investigate a 911 hang-up. Upon arriving, they discovered that the young caller had a serious concern—his mom had eaten his ice cream, and he believed she deserved to go to jail for it.
An audio recording of the initial call revealed the child’s earnest determination.
“My mom is being bad,” the boy told the Racine County dispatcher when asked about the nature of the emergency.
When the dispatcher inquired further, the boy responded, “Come get my mommy.”
The mother quickly took the phone and clarified the situation, saying, “Oh, this little one got the phone, and he’s 4. We’re trying to catch him because he said he was gonna call 911.”
Despite the mother’s attempt to explain, the boy stood his ground, saying, “No – I called the police and I just told her to come and get my mommy … and I just told her to put her to jail. So leave me alone.”
The mother later explained the humorous cause behind the call: “I ate his ice cream, so that’s probably why he’s calling 911.”
Authorities confirmed that there was no real emergency and used the moment to remind parents about the importance of teaching children the appropriate use of emergency services.
Upon speaking with the officers, the boy eventually decided he no longer wanted his mom to be in trouble—he just wanted some ice cream.
