Democratic Senator Mark Kelly has accused former President Donald Trump of jeopardizing Ukraine’s security by suspending intelligence-sharing with Kyiv. The move allegedly left Ukraine vulnerable to recent Russian attacks on its energy and gas infrastructure.
Kelly, who recently visited Ukraine, emphasized the importance of U.S. intelligence in helping Ukraine counter Russian aggression. “Intelligence-sharing has been a lifeline for Ukraine’s defense strategy. Suspending it now is a dangerous mistake,” Kelly stated.
His remarks come amid rising tensions within U.S. political circles over continued support for Ukraine. Trump’s advisor, billionaire Elon Musk, fired back, calling Kelly a “traitor” for his stance on the issue. However, national security experts warn that any reduction in intelligence-sharing could embolden Russia and further destabilize the region.
According to Reuters, Ukraine’s defense officials are scrambling to adjust to the intelligence gap, relying more on European and NATO sources for strategic insights.
The Biden administration has yet to respond to Kelly’s claims, but sources suggest internal discussions are underway regarding the future of U.S. support for Ukraine’s war effort.
