In a significant development, the seventh meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission concluded with the signing of four pivotal agreements. The meeting, which reviewed bilateral relations and areas of mutual cooperation, was attended by Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud and Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.

The first agreement focuses on the expansion of the communication network, trade, water resources, and energy trade between the two nations. A second agreement, concerning Indian grant assistance, was signed to implement high impact community development projects through government organizations or other entities, as confirmed by Amrit Bahadur Rai, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A long-term energy trade agreement was also signed, paving the way for the export of 10,000 megawatts of electricity over the next decade. This was accompanied by a memorandum of understanding between the Nepal Electricity Authority and the National Thermal Power Corporation of the Government of India, focusing on cooperation for the development of renewable energy.

In a major boost to space research, an agreement was signed between the Nepal Institute of Science and Technology (NAST) and New Space India (NSIL), representing the Indian Space Research Organization and the Department of Space. This agreement will facilitate Moonal satellite launch services on a polar satellite launch vehicle.

Today also marked the inauguration of the Raxaul Parwanipur, Kushaha Kataiya, and New Nautanwa Mainahia international transmission lines of 132 KV capacity between the two countries. In a generous move, the Government of India announced a grant of 10 billion rupees for post-earthquake reconstruction.
